On Friday 19th June the Algarve International Racetrack (AIA) in Portimão officially inaugurated the AIA Racing School. Driving enthusiasts can now have exhilarating driving experiences on track and also learn crucial racing techniques from worldly renowned drivers on one of the most technically demanding tracks in the world.
With the inauguration of the AIA Racing School you can now drive your dream car on one of the most technologically advanced tracks in the world without having to travel abroad.
The brand new AIA Racing School has several courses available for all levels of drivers and participants will be acquiring their skills from the best in the business: throughout the whole year Pedro Lamy, Filipe Albuquerque, José Monroy, Tiago Monteiro, Pedro Couceiro and Manuel Gião will be the designated instructors of the courses.
Among the programmes available are the 'Taxi Experiences', where you will have one of the most terrifying experiences of your life as you sit by the side of one of the professional drivers on a manic two lap race, in either a Ferrari Modena 360 or a BMW M3.
If you want to get your hands on a real driving experience, then the 'Driving Experiences' are for you. These consist of four levels of driving courses (Classic, Silver, Gold, Platinum [includes personal training]) with prices ranging from 299 to €899. They are designed to test and improve your car handling with several different exercises.
The 'Dynamic Control' exercise consists of a small circuit delineated with cones. Your main objective is to finish the circuit without touching any cones. It may sound easy, but with parts of the circuit being covered with a special gel to simulate situations of very low grip, your reflexes and grasp of the vehicle are of utmost importance to end this exercise in a good time.
Participants will have to show their control of the vehicle in the 'Drift Control' exercise, where they must perform donuts in the drift pad, in wet conditions, and keep a steady circular trajectory.
The 'Track Level 1/2/3' will be the first actual track experience, where participants will firstly be taken around the track, with the instructor driving, to get to know the track and learn the ideal trajectories. After switching seats, the participant will then drive four, six, eight or ten laps around the track, depending on the course chosen.
Available only in the Silver, Gold and Platinum courses is the 'Head to Head'. In this exercise participants will have a direct confrontation with another learner around a circuit with cones, this consists of one reconnaissance lap and one timed lap.
For the Platinum course only is the 'Pursuit' exercise, where participants will follow the instructor around the track. Over the six laps, the instructor will gradually increase the speed.
As safety always comes first, there will always be a briefing session beforehand to explain what you will be doing, what precautions to take and a theoretical introduction to relevant aspects of the track and how to make the most out of the day in absolute safety.
The list of cars available for the courses are truly impressive as you have cars for all levels of drivers, such as Caterham, Porsche Cayman S, BMW M3, Porsche 911 Carrera 2 S. Porsche Carrera 4 S, Nissan GTR, Porsche GT 3, Ferrari Modena 360 and Porsche GT3 RS.

Motorbike courses are also available, with the tutoring of Miguel Praia and Eugene Laverty, current pilots for the Parkalgar Honda Racing team.
