Track day at Algarve Race circuit

Over 800 people participated in the Algarve MotorPark's celebrations of the April 25th Revolution with the 'Feel the Freedom at the Racetrack' initiative, which allowed drivers to take their own cars around the Algarve MotorPark's famous circuit.

The open track day was held to celebrate 36 years since Portugal's revolution, having attracted thousands of people to the Algarve Motorpark to drive around the track in their own cars. Several foreign tourists, many of whom were Spanish, travelled specifically to the Algarve to experience the track first hand.

"It was a huge success because it surpassed all our expectations. We weren't expecting so many people" said Jorge Fernandes, an employee at the racetrack.

Drivers were allowed two laps at the famous circuit for five euros, with many having repeated their two laps up to three times.

"It is a way to attract people and allow them to come into contact with one of the best tracks in the world" said Jorge Fernandes, adding "All sorts of vehicles have been here, from passenger and commercial vehicles to motorbikes."

Track marshals were on watch at several points around the track to control the excesses of some drivers and ensure safety, as several vehicles were on the track at a time.

The majority of drivers were very happy with the opportunity to drive on the Algarve racetrack; "It was very good. I only knew the track from the outside, as a spectator and from television. I heard of the initiative and took advantage" said a man from Olhão, who travelled 80km to drive around the track
